Christmas Fern

This is one of my many different ferns emerging from the ground. When we first purchased our house I was at a loss over what to plant because most of my gardens are in shade. I was frustrated and disappointed over being unable to plant all the sun loving annuals I knew. But after much research and some trial and error, my shade garden has become my favorite, filled with leafy perennials and a lovely interplay of light and shadow. I love how this Christmas fern starts all curled up and then slowly unrolls and fans out. To me, they look like baby dragons crawling out of the ground, all serpentine and scaly. Unfortunately they don't look anything like this when they are done. Enjoy them while you can!

Great description.
I'll never look at Christmas ferns the same again.
