Goldfinches Posted by Picasa

We like to watch the birds while we eat lunch everyday. Maya has become surprising good at identifying the various birds that come to the feeders. While she may not remember all their names, she does recognize any new species. She loves the fact that it is lunch time for the birds as well as us, and on occasion, the cats. However, it always brings up the perplexing conversation of why birds eat birdseed, and cats eat birds, but cats won't eat birdseed when Maya tries to feed it to them. Ah, the complex workings of her mind. She also likes to try and convince me that the birds will eat whatever offending food she doesn't want, in an attempt to get to her dessert sooner. This will be the child that trades every item in her lunch box (including the carrots sticks) for Ho Hos and Ding Dongs and somehow will convince her naive peers that it was a good trade.
